Abstract:
An overview of the natural mineral waters recognized by the Serbian market from designated sources is presented. The technique of stable isotope ratio analysis of hydrogen (d2H from –91 to –77‰) and oxygen (d 18O from –12.1 to –10.4‰) was applied to prove their meteoric origin. The authenticity of some waters was verified by computing their age using the carbon-14 method. In term of residence time, the natural mineral waters were of a wide range from young (250 yr) to old ones (40000 yr). The concentrations of radionuclides (40K, 226Ra, 232Th) were relatively low. The health and therapeutic properties of the analyzed natural mineral waters are declared.
